North of England Categories

Following the success of the Game of the North category, introduced in 2008, and the huge interest in the awards from across the North, this year's Big Chips have three categories open for entries from the North of England.

Entries for these awards are welcomed from anywhere in the North of England - including the North East, North West and Yorkshire and the Humber.

Game of the North

Closing date for entries was 8 March 2010.

The Game of the North Award celebrates the fact that some of the best games work in the UK is done in the North of England. Submissions can be stand-alone electronic games working on any platform that demonstrate innovation, outstanding design or “playability”.

Games which are part of a marketing or e-learning project belong in the marketing or e-learning categories.

Little Chip Student Award

This category is still open. Click here to enter.

Closing date for entries is 26 March 2010 at 5pm

The Big Chip award for student work is back. But this time it's open to higher and further education institutions from across the North of England.

Entries must be a digital artefact - such as a website, mobile application or animation - that could be used to promote some aspect of the entrant educational institution. Submissions should demonstrate creativity in the design of the artefact or in the way it is used to promote the institution, or both.

One entry is allowed from each educational institution. This can be the work of a single student chosen from individual entries by different students, or it can be a collaborative work involving a number of students.

Big Green Chip Award

Closing date for entries was 8 March 2010

An entry in this category can be any application of digital technology that has directly or indirectly helped improve or preserve the environment, or any digital project that is exemplary in achieving its goals in an environmentally sustainable way. For example, a project which encourages or helps people to reduce their carbon footprint using a digital medium, or the application of digital technology significantly to reduce the environmental impact of a product or service. Entrants should demonstrate how the digital project or application of digital technology has helped improve or preserve the environment, or in what way it is exemplary.
