DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR 13th BIG CHIP AWARDS

Press Release 1st March 2011:

Entrants now have until 14th March 2011

The deadline for this year’s Big Chip Awards for companies in the North West and beyond excelling in the use of digital technology has been extended from Monday 7st March to Monday 14th March 2011. Since the gradual introduction in previous years of specific awards for companies outside the North West, interest outside the region has been has been growing. In response, this year’s awards call for entries from any company, organisation or initiative in the North of England – anywhere from Derby to the Scottish border.

Manchester Digital has also announced the initial sponsors for this year’s awards. Headline sponsor Melbourne Server Hosting is sponsoring the Best Application of Technology award, Manchester Metropolitan University is sponsoring Best On-line Marketing Campaign and the UK Fund for Digital and Creative is sponsoring the menu.

Awards organiser Manchester Digital is inviting companies from all sectors across the North to submit their entries for the 2010 awards by the extended date of 5pm Monday 14th March.

Entries are submitted online at www.bigchipawards.com. The first two entries are free. Subsequent entries cost £85. The closing date for entries is Monday 14th March 2011.

The Big Chip Awards will be announced at a luxurious awards dinner on Thursday 16th June at the Palace Hotel, Manchester. The awards’ progress can be followed on Twitter @BigChip2011 and with hashtag #BigChip2011.

Organised by trade association Manchester Digital, , with support from regional bodies such as Liverpool Vision and the Manchester Digital Development Agency, the awards are open to any organisation based in the North that has designed or commissioned any digital projects in the past year. This can include website, DVD, animation, wireless, and SMS projects.

Chair of Manchester Digital, Shaun Fensom, said: “The level of interest in the Big Chip Awards this year has been high and we are pleased to be able to re-arrange the judging process to offer companies who have not been able to complete their entries a little more time.

“The Big Chip Awards have always been about bringing the North’s digital community together and we’re delighted that the enthusiasm of the entrants has been matched by the generosity of our sponsors Melbourne, Manchester Metropolitan University and the UK Fund for Digital and Creative.

“Last year’s awards were the largest ever for submissions, sponsorship and attendees and we are sure that this year’s will be even better.”
